Would it be possible to convert from oil bath to a paper element type air cleaner on a older 4000 4 cylinder diesel? Also has anyone seen a replacement proof meter for sale for a SOS trans?

Yes It can be done with the right parts as far as I know the 4000 only came with a oil bath air cleaner
You would need the nose cone off a 4600 because the hood dog leg on the right has a hole for the dry cleaner the 4000 oil bath cleaner is serviced by removing the grill to get to the oil cup

I think you're on the wrong tractor! This is a 4 cylinder prior version as per the title of the post.

Stay with the oil bath, particularly in dusty conditions.

Yes its possible, but why would you want to? Those paper filter can be expensive and clog up in a hurry in dusty conditions. Paper filters also have more of a presure drop accross them than an oil bath which may require enlarging the piping for the air intake system in order to provide enough air for the engine to breath under load conditions.
