Finally got engine timed, it was off by one tooth and it smoked terribly. Now, Runs great, no smoke. Anyone R&R the fuel pump, look out for the offset drive tab and slot, its offset for sure ,so, get it right. Now on to the SOS. I finally got a old but readable I&T manual. On No 2 port, no oil pressure in any selections or operating the feather pedal. Oil level okay and looks clean. I guess the next place to go is remove the top cover and check the valve control spools there. The PTO Cable handle is froze up in the off position also. Anyones input here is appreciated. bjr

You're saying you have no pressure at #2 Servo? Are pressures normal elsewhere? From what I'm hearing you say, the transmission should operate thusly: It should go to Park in Park AND Neutral. It should operate normally in 5,6,7 & 8. It should lock up and kill the engine in all other selections. Is that what you have or is there no pressure elsewhere that you maybe haven't checked yet? Let us know.

No pressure to No.2 and no repsonse, motion, in any selctor positions. I haven't any pressures from any other ports yet. I don't think I have a transmission lubrication light on the tractor just a engine oil pressure light. bjr

Let me clarify an age issue that I've noticed from your other posts. 4000 4 cyl tractors were produced from mid 62 to mid 65.

As to your SOS:

1. From the factory your tractor had an engine oil pressure gauge. It did not have an engine oil pressure light.

2. It may or may not have a transmission pressure light. If it has one it will be right below the throttle lever on the dash. I have a late '62 4000 without and a mid '65 one with.

3. The problem you're having may be attributed to one or more of several reasons. Have you recoupled the traction disconnect? If you have and there is absolutely no engine speed fluctutation or noise from the transmission as you shift through the speeds, suspect the torque limiter clutch in the flywheel or the splines on the input shaft. Other possiblilites include major internal leak, broken selector cable, bad pump, or hung valves.

Best wishes let me know if I can do anything else to help.

I got the top cover off ran tractor briefly and shift octognal shaft with wrench through all positions and there was no evidense of oil movement in bottom of case no movement of anything. Remove upper control valve and all plungers appear to be moving in valve. I cranked engine to see if any oil was coming up to valve mounting base and there was none. I'm wondering if I should attack the lower valve body and check those spools or just pull the tractor in the with my other tractor and start splitting procedures. I would have thought if input shaft and pump was turning I would have seen some oil movement or even a front component of somekind moving, but all is still with engine running. What do you Think? bjr

Splitting time! in reply to bjr, 01-21-2006 10:40:40
There is no lower control valve in this unit. Your problem has to be in the bell housing. Do a front split. I bet you'll find the torque clutch totally trashed, but it could be something else.

could I have a generator light then? I have no ammeter. It's on the leftside of the steering wheel. I'm gonna pull the top cover tomorrow and see what's up there. Then move to the valves on the side. Will let you know what I find. Thanks for replying and kinda staying with me through this. bjr

Yes the small red light on the left side is a charging idiot light.
