I'm going to look at a tractor the man said its either a 600 or 601, he said the S/N# was 60160.

A little background, I plan on mowing a 6 acre field and rotortilling a 1 acre field, I was
wondering if a 1964 FORD 600 FARM TRACTOR 4 cyl gas eng, frt bucket, has down pressure
on bucket, runs gd. $2500, would soot my needs. Is this tractor over priced. I'll also be pulling trees
out of the wood for cutting (personel wood).

The guy told me engine blows a little blew smoke, and he never had a hitch of any kind on the tractor. But I could get a used COMPLETE 3 point hitch for around $500.00.

Are they easy to install the complete 3 point hitch??

WHat are the + and - associated with this tractor, or should I be looking at a different tractor...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you buy the Ford tractor?
I have a 601 that i use around my place and really like it. I wish I had the front bucket off that tractor for mine.
Hope you got what you wanted

If it's a 1964 it's a 4 cyl. 2000, not a 600/601, but still basically the same tractor. $2500 is cheap for one with a loader, but that's because it's an industrial model with no 3-point hitch (and therefore also likely no PTO and no hydraulics for the rear hitch -- the loader probably runs off a dedicated pump on the front of the tractor).

You will find that these tractors with a loader on them are light in the rear end and short on traction without a lot of ballast on the rear. That will be a problem for dragging logs (a potentially dangerous thing to do with a farm tractor - high flip over risk if log snags)

You're not going to do any mowing or rototilling unless you have a hitch and pto.

Sounds like it's what you want only if the three point hitch lift arms and hardware are all that's missing and the hydraulics and pto are really there.

Ford stopped making the 600 in 1957, and stopped making the 601 in 1962. The going price in my area for a good 600 or 601 is over $3500.

I suspect that if there is no 3-point hitch then there is no hydraulic pump or hydraulic pump manifold, either. And I believe that the models without a factory 3-point hitch also had no PTO.

If you are like most people, you will find that it is not worth your money, time, or trouble to buy a Ford tractor with no 3-point hitch or PTO (unless it is for parts). If the parts are so cheap, why doesn't the owner put them in and make an extra $1000 or more?

I have never owned a 600 series tractor but I never heard anyone complain about them either. The price would be about right
