I agree with Old and soundguy and some of the others. For basic repair low cost consumables stick welding is the way to go. A good friend wanted the same thing only his goal was to do porch railngs and fencing ornimental things mostly out of 1" thin wall rectangle tube. He bought a new 110V 135 lincoln wire feed machine. I watched him fighting wire feed rate. The wind on outside welding blew the expensive gas away so it was core flux he used mostly. He had to stay on quarter inch material or less because the welder would kick off if pushed too hard. Now when him or his buddies do trailer repair they come use my old lincoln 250 stick machine because he's afaid of melting his 110 mig machine. And yes get a oxy-acetlene torch. The communty college suggestion was a good one. All of these responders have points from their experience and I'm no different. This is my two cents. bjr
