I am in the process of restoring a 1959 871 Select-o-speed. It is currently red and gray. Looking at it, it appears that the front/back axles, block, steering shaft, oil filter cover, etc were painted gold at one time. Can anyone assist me in finding out what the original color of this tractor was? Was it a demonstrator? Serial nr: 66228. Thank you in advance.

I'm no expert, but from what I've read your serial number is in the correct range to be a gold demonstrator. If I were restoring it, I would carefully remove the top coats of paint and try to leave the original gold undamaged. Nice find!

The gold tractors were dealer promotional demonstrators.
