Hey guys, I was just wondering if many of you also visit over on the N board. I do and have noticed a couple of distinct differences in the two "neighborhoods". Just for the fun of it I counted the number of posts here and there since Friday morning; 58 here, 267 over there. That may be a factor of more people; there surely seem to be more Ford Ns out there than the newer Fords of the 50s, 60s and 70s. The conversation is quite different also. Here we seem to focus on model indentification, locating parts and mechanical repairs. The N board seems to have all of this plus dialog about tractor shows, safety issues, hunorous stories about tractor ownership, and general talk about using their tractors. The N boarders dwell on the joys and pride of ownership, and all that goes with it. The Ford boarders are a more reserved bunch, emphasizing the mechanical challenges of maintaining or restoring our tractors. I'm not saying either is better than the other, but they certainly are different. I guess I'm just making conversation; and already said plenty. Anybody else have any observations or comments?

Yes Bill,

Here is an example of the fine conversation on the N board:

Just kidding!

I frequent and occasional contribute to both boards. I'm neither a computer guy or a tractor guy as far as experienc and expertise are concerned. In other words, I'm equally stupid in both arenas. I enjoy both boards for what they are and what they offer. Long live the difference!

I have an 850 and have enjoyed getting to know it better. I've also learned a lot about tractors in general from the N board due to the fact that very few questions go unanswered over there.

I just wanted to mention that one possible reason (in addition to the fact that almost one million N-Series tractors were produced by Ford - i.e., there is a lot of them) is that the 9N,2N,8N board is one of the oldest forums here. First we had "Tractor Talk", and it was our only forum. Next came the N-Board and so it is around 3 years older than all of the other boards.

Many individuals that hang out there have been friends now for several years and so there is a bit more off-topic conversation and banter mixed in with the technical talk. Many of the other boards are working towards that as well - a combination of community, friendship, tractor lore and information.

If you look up "tlak" at the N board you'll notice I'm pretty active over there. I was always of the opinion that this board should be closed and could be absorbed at the N with out notice because of what you said about the 58 post. They use 58 posts all answering the same question or what color something should be. Nobody is locked in to what board they should go to by what tractor they have, some of the people have been active at the N board for a while then say "I finally got my first tractor". You need to sample all the boards, alot of diverse topics and people. Ive posted the link to the list of boards incase some of you get here by other links.

The feeling I get is the N board is more populated by computer guys who may have tractors. The Ford board is populated by tractor guys who have computers.

RickWI,

Good observation!

I frequent both boards but contribute very little here because I just don't know enough about the later tractors.
Guess I should buy that 2000 up the road, eh?

:-)
