I have a Ford 5000 (English Model) with a Simms inline injection pump. The tractor has sat for several months. I've bled the system and blew down the line to the tank removing a blockage there, Now I've bled the system (replaced the filter) and can get good flow to the joints on top of the pump leading to the injectors except for the #1 joint nearest the front of the tractor. Tractor spins good, but will not start. Any ideas on how to remove the blockage before I do the exchange pump thing ($$$)?

Never use ether. Ether dries the cylinders walls out. Over years of use you will have a lot of wear due to the use of ether. Use wd 40 or something like that. But if you have the timing set right no aid will be needed. I use my 5000 at home and for pulling. I never use ether. It is stock and it is set right and I pull with 4020s, 666, and 830s that have be updated to run high rpm. I have beat them. Not bad for a 5000 sos.

In regard to the #1 not pumping fuel. Take the side-door off the pump and check to see all four lifters on the cam are going up an down. They sometimes get stuck after sitting and when run out of oil. Usually you can just pop it loose with a screwdriver.

There should be a fuel lift pump ahead of the injector pump or right on the side of it check to see if it is pumping right.

Thanks to all for the help. I've bled the 3 working lines up to the injectors. No white smoke, in fact no smoke at all just some futtering of the exhust cover. I will take a closer look at the cold start button as it didn't seem to want to stay in when I tried to use it earlier. I've got the block heater plugged in so she's good and warm.

Open throttle more than 1/3, push in excess fuel button & try again. May need a shot of ether to wake it up.

Sometimes the excess fuel button sticks and cuts off the fuel to the injectors. This is in the piviot of the stop lever and is used for cold starting. Grip the button with a pair of pliers and gently pull outwards at the same time as working the stop lever. If it clicks out, try starting.

Also try the cold start manifold heater by turning the ignition key until the dash lights go oui just before the start position. Hold it there for 30 secs then move to the start position.

Crack the lines at the injectors themselves and bleed. Also check the air intake areas (filters clean, no birds nests). Check the timing.

Any white smoke comin' outta the stack yet? You can tell when there's fuel gitten to the cylinders that way. Keep bleedin' and when you see smoke it should start a fire in her. Oh yeah, any kind of 'lectric fuel solenoid on the pump needs to be energized and throttle crack some? bjr
