Hello,
I was hoping someone on the board could help me identify my specific ford tractor model. The model code is D1424CS. From the research I have done the "D" designates a 4000 model, the "2" designates gas, the second "4" indicates independant PTO, and the "C" indicates 8 speed transmission. I have no idea what the 14 following the D represents, a 10 is all purpose, 11 is LCG, 12 Hwy, ect. I could not find anything for a 14. Also the "S" suffix baffles me, I could not find any info pertaining to it. The tractor seems to be some sort of utlity model since it has the 3000 front end. By the way the tractor is a 1970 model. Any info on this model number would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Sounds to me like you have a 4000 SU or super utility. A 4000 with the 3000 style front axle and normally 28" rear rubber with 5 rail spin out wheels. Ford had a lot of trouble with the 2/3000 dry brakes and this tractor solved the problem plus single clutch and Ind PTO made a neat package.

Yes this model does have the power adjustable rear wheels. I think it must be an SU as well. Thanks for your help.
I just got this tractor this weekend and made a few rounds with a bushhog today. I really like the low profile for crawling over hills and around trees. I'm thinking the underside exhaust will probably have to go though, else I'll end up dragging it off or catching something on fire!
