Soundguy, Soundguy, Soundguy! A 66 model is nowhere near akin to a hundred series tractor! There were no 6 volt systems on these. All 65 up were negative ground as far as I know.

Ok.. should be a B-circuit genny and regulator. You didn't mention.. but I'm guessing this is???? 12v if so.. neg grnd.. if 6v.. then pos grnd... anyway.. guessing 12v / neg grnd. ( though will run pos grnd ). Whichever you decide for grounding.. get it hooke dup that way.. etc.. if it is a gas model, make sure the ignition coil is oriented correctly to the new polarity.

Now.. polarize genny, and set cutout.. jumper bat to field for a couple seconds. Start her up and get up to 1000-1200 rpm.. doe lamp go off? NO? jumper bat to field again.. and leave jumpered.. does lamp go off? (yes.. unjumper and see if lamp still off.. if yes.. shut down machine and restart and see if it works by itself this time.. if not.. replace vr. ) If it didn't work at all.. I'd then jumper bat to field, and then arm to bat.. and if the lamp didn't go off.. I'd carry them to a genny shop as it looks like genny aint puttin' out... if those jumperings work.. vr is bad and genny is generatin'

I had to dink with my 12v genny and lucas vr for a bit to get it charging. new lucas vr is about 25$ or so... Or you can find appropriate voltage vr for a hundred series.. perhaps a 12v hundred series diesel.. it's vr will work.. only difference is the hundred series vr is current limited to 25a.. whereas the lucas vr may only be limited to 20a.. so watch for overcharging as when you have a high load or weak battery, the hundred series vr may call for more charging than the lucas genny can put out.. etc.

I sucessfully worked a hundred series 12v b circuit vr for my setup as a test when working on my 5000.

Thanks guys I was pretty sure it is neg ground but when you see that lucas made in england anything possable switched the cables and it starts alot quicker I guess now that the coil is going the right way. Will flash see if I can get the gen to work.

Great Great Great the gen gens lights out. The guy I got this tractor from has been buying new bats for the last 10 years and all it needed was turn bat around and a little flash!!!!

Ironically, the 'fash' was the biggest part.., as the genny would have charged positive ground fine.. just the coil was not hooked up for optimum spark polarity.. it did run.

Looks like all is good now.

Have fun, and post some pics of that machine.
