Doing a fast track resto on my 55 960. I"ve not been into the tractor resto world long. What sources are out there for parts for restoration? I have the local Ford New Holland dealer available. Are there other sources though? For example, does anyone make repro amp, temp or oil pressure gages form tractor? Original decals or stickers? Thanks, Brad_bb

Brad;

You might want to look at e-bay. They have all kinds of parts and gauges too, ie proof meters, temp, oil, amp and volt guages etc.

I hate to be the old SOB that brings this up, but there ain't no such thing as a "fast track restoration". A restoration is just that, some guys spend hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars on a true restoration. Thousands of others spend a hundred bucks and call it a restoration, when it ain't nothin but a fix up with a new paint job. Then there all of us in between. There are no reproduced parts on a restoration, but they can be used to fix up a tractor really nice. You can find all the parts you need just over to the left under "tractor parts" and support the site.
I don't restore em, but I do like to fix em up purty, make em run real nice and shift sos smooth.

Rick,

I don't want to get into the discussion of how fast a "restoration" can be done, but I do agree there is a difference between a true restoration and fixing them to look pretty (and more or less "right") and run well.

Maybe a good term for that is "refurbish". So far my family and I have been much more interested in refurbishing because we still plan to use the machines. Restorations, I assume, will mostly be show pieces.

I'm weird in the fact that I have restored cars to high point cars, but then don't show them, but drive them! I'm meticulous in restoration, but don't believe in leaving it sit once it's done. It may get chipped, it may need to be cleaned more, but if I've got all that time and money into it, I'm sure as heck going to enjoy it. I don't know how to restore to a lesser level. So I'm doing this tractor the same way. I'm on a fast track because it is my mowing tractor. I have to use it to mow about 8 acres every weekend in the spring and every other in the summer if it is dry. I have to have it done in 8-12 weeks so I can mow. I am now 2 weeks into it. The generator and starter are rebuild and ready to be detailed. Most all the tractor parts are at the stripper right now or will by by Friday afternoon. The engine will be at the machine shop by Friday afternoon. I have to order all my parts by this weekend. When parts start coming back from the stripper I'll be bodyworking like a madman. I'll try to update my pics each week, but probably won't be like clockwork.

Love that loader and tractor. Looks great. im afraid my 660 and 1-arm loader has more of a 'work' set of clothes on right now.

I disagree entirely. I've restored a number of high point show cars. My tractor is now completely stripped down. I'm fixing and bodyworking the sheetmetal to get all the pits out, making stencils to reapply the correct monikers. I'm sending out the appropriate hardware for replating. I'm rebuilding all components and applying the correct finishes. I call that restoration. 8-12 weeks is a fast track, but I have the experience and know what to farm out to get it done. So therefore, I disagree with you. And I've looked at the links on this site and it really doesn't seem to offer that many parts for my tractor.

Sounds like you may indeed be doing a restoration. And 8-12 weeks is indeed a fast track. I may have been wwrrrw wwwww rrrr wroooo wrong. Just don"t paint the lug nuts or throttle lever red :>)

Yes. As best as I can tell the throttle lever and lugs were silver cad plated. I'll probably end up silver zinc plating them (technically silver zinc with clear chromate). I have done silver cad in the past, but cad platers are getting harder to find, plus if you have any pitting, cad can leave black specs in the pits. Zinc will not. Zinc is brighter than cad but should hold up better.

Try this site...they have a lot of good stuff. If you Google Ford tractor parts you will also get a bunch of hits for new and used parts. Happy surfing :)
