does anyone know who can make and what adapters are needed to fit an engine to tractor from two different makes? A CAT 3116 turbo to a ford 5000 or 8000

I assume that you're going to pull it? My gut feeling is that it wouldn't be all that difficult to mate that up to an 8000 back end. If you do a little research, I think you'll find that the Cat Challenger 35, 45, and 55 used the 3116 engine. The remainder of that tractor was assembled by Ford, in Winnipeg, with the Ford Genesis platform. The 3116 was mated to Ford's transmission there..... so you might find the appropriate housings for the mating through Cat. Beyond that, it's like Robert said. Be prepared to spend spend spend. You'll probably want a good machinist, and be prepared to fab a lot of parts. Extend the frame, move stuff around, design and build as you go. I'm pretty sure that the 3116 wants an unstressed block... it's not a structural member, unlike the Ford blocks, so you'll have to work around that too. Many many things to consider, research, and figure out. Good luck.
