I have a 5000 that needs love. What should I expect to pay for a front bolster? I have the late steering box, what does a used one bring? I'll be running an ad to locate them soon, but want to have my pocket prepared.Would it be practical to have a steel one fabricated?

I think I would just start looking around at local scrap yards, and see what you can turn up in the way of a bolster. I'm sure if your local bone yard doesn't have one, they could point you in the direction of somebody that might. Pricewise, I really don't know. Probably a couple hundred, plus the freight.... That's really a personal choice on how much you want to spend, and how bad you want the tractor fixed.... I guess if you make 20 phone calls, and only find one bolster, you get to appreciate it's availability. Also, depending on how or where it's broke, you might consider welding it, probably with something like a Sodel 35 rod. If it's preheated properly, and then the cooling controled properly, it should weld OK. That would be a job for somebody well experienced in welding cast. It would also be my second option, if I couldn't find a used bolster. However, I'm sure you could find one fairly easily. That's not something that's often broken, and there should be a few 5000's around that are broken up by now. HTH.
