Front end woes...need advice.

I have recently obtained a 1970 gas 4140 (4000SU) which is a 4000 model with a 3000 front end. I had suspected the front end components were worn, lots of popping and creaking going on. So I dismantled the entire front end only to find that everything from the engine block forward is pretty much scrap metal. I wont go into detail, but a couple highlights were that the axle pin was worn completly through and the bolster threaded hole elongated over a 1/4", the spindles/knees were so worn I seperate them without even having to remove the keystock! The center axle had been broken in half previously and welded back together. Very dissapointing ... but I`m past that now and planning the rebuild. From research what I have discovered is 1970 was a transition year, August models had a re-designed front end. My tractor was built in March, so it had the older style. My question is.... since I am replacing everything (bolster, axle, knees) would it be advisable / more practicle to use the later style components? Is there any reason the later style wouldn't work? I understand that the radius rods are also different. Mine appear ok, but I could sell them if I did switch.
I appreciate anyones input.

My perosnal preference would be to head to a good machine shop with the bolster. That can be repaired. Either over bush it, and then bring it back to size, or they can repair with NiRod, and then machine to spec. The axle could be repaired by the same means. The king pin bushings are removable; the spindles replacable. You can also go scrounging for used parts. To me, that would be fine if the axle wasn't repairable. I kind of view used as like buying a pig in a bag. You rely on somebody how many hundred miles away to ship you a good, useable, correct fitting part.... and hope it all works out after the freight is paid. So I often try to repair first. That's my suggestion anyway.
