Hi all. My Ford 3000 gas won't start after sitting for about 2 months. It turns over, but won't start. I couldn't get the plug wires to spark after I think testing it correctly, so I want to refurbish the ignition as best I can before trying again. I removed the distributor cap and tried to remove the rotor by pulling up on it, but it will come up a few millimeters, maybe, and then stops as if it had hit a....stop of some sort. I can get the dust cover up a few mm also, and I can see some blue-green corrody-looking stuff under there, but I can't get either one off. How do I remove the rotor and then the dust cap?

thanks, andy

Take a pair of vise grips and brake the rotor, it probably needs to be replaced any how. Then you can get the dust cover off. Somes like the points are bad and thats why you don't have spark. If it where me I would replace the points, condenser, cap and rotor any how just to be sure all was well

Blue green corrody stuff isn't a good sign if you're looking for a bright blue spark.
Both of the rotor and dust cover are made of bakelite. Breaks easy. But they're easily replaceable. Get them off one way or another. Then replace them along with the points and condenser. Get all of the connections in there as Dell on the N forum says: "clean bright and tight"
