golden jubilee won't run

I am new to this particular forum. A friend of mine has a 53 golden jubilee. He parked it in his shed several years ago and hasn't cranked it since. Was running fine then. He did not drain the gas from tractor or carb. Went to crank it several days ago and would only run on one cylinder. He drained all gas, replaced points, plugs, condenser, plug wires, distributor cap. Took out plugs from #2,3 and 4 cylinders. Tractor would run (like a dog) on #1 cylinder. He says there is very little compression coming out of 2,3 and 4. He has not run a compression check with gauge, just with his finger. He also says that each plug is firing. I will be going over this weekend to try and help him out. I am not that acquainted with testing for a blown head gasket, any suggestions? Any other suggestions? I know how much he loves that tractor and I want to do all I can to help him. I have a shed full of Fergusons and Farmalls but, I have never came up against this type of problem. Any help appreciated..... ...

Before you fix it, tell him it's shot and offer him $500 for it.

Make sure that each plug has a fat bluish spark not an orangey or yellowish spark. A real compression check would provide more info to trouble shoot this problem. Even a cold engine compression check would. Put a compression gauge on each cylinder, open the thtottle butterfly completely, crank the engine, and record the readings. then put a couple of tablespoons of motor oil down each cylinder and repeat. If the pressures go up significantly when you add the oil, the rings are worn or stuck. If they don't go up, you have a problem with the valves (burned exhaust valve, stuck valve, broken valve spring) or possibly a blown head gasket if the low compression redings are in adjacent cylinders.

pour some cheapy 2$ a bottle jiffy store tranny fluid down each spark hole.. stuff a rag in there or thread plugs in loosely, and let set for a day.. remove plugs.. bump enigne over.. add more mmo.

Might help frr up rings if they are stuck.

Right before you are ready to start it, run the engine over with the plugs out a few times to expell excess oil.. put plugs in, run her over and hit the carb mouth with a shot of start fluid.. see if that doesn't make her take off. f it does.. let her run for a bit. I'll assume it has new engine oil.. etc. might want to add some mmo to the oil, and once you get her running good, change the oil and filter again.

al 437 plugs work good.. and metal core spark plug wires.

.025 points and plug gap
