I recently bought a ford 5000 diesel and the lights didn't work. I thought it was the bulbs. So I repaced one with a new one. It still doesn't work. When I pull the light switch out the dashboard lights come on but not the front ones. The engine doesn't have to be on to get them to work does it? The lights have two connections...if I have them reversed would that cause a problem? I've done an overview of the lights wiring and it looks good to me so far. Any ideas.? Thanks.

if it is still stock wiring and switch, the first click is instrument lamps and rear lights only. the second click is front and rear and instrument.
original switch has built in circuit breaker that weakens over time. replacement from cnh has fuses instead of breaker.

I would get a test light from an auto parts store and ground the lead on the test light to the negative side of the battery and probe the wires to the headlights with the switch on. Keep moving back in the harness and fix the connection or break in the wire. That is the basic of troubleshooting wiring problems.I do not know about 5000's but I am sure the headlights should come on when you pull the switch. Good Luck!

bily,
only way to tell is to get in there with a voltmeter or a test light and find out when and where you're not getting electricity to those bulbs. check at the switch then at the big connector plug, then to the bulbs thmselves.
Remove the bolts that hold that bolt the lights on and make sure they aren't real rusty and not getting ground.
Dunno beyond that Good luck
Jerry
