My 8 week resto of my 55 960 narrow front end gas Ford started early in March. All the parts are now stripped. The main differential/transmission pedestal assembly will arrive back at my shop today from the sand blaster. I picked up the rebuild engine last Saturday and had it prepped, primed, and painted by Sunday night. Over the weekend I also welded and patched my rear fenders, and TIG welded up some stress cracks on teh lower colum sheetmetal. This weekend I will get all the parts prepped and in epoxy primer, paint a bunch of the red parts that don"t need bodyworking, and apply sprayable filler on the rear fenders and front sheet metal in preparation for block sanding. The last 6 pics in my album are new and I"ll be adding more after this weekend. I finally upgraded my picture hosting account. My goal of goal of finishing this resto in 8 weeks will likely turn into 10 or so, but I sorta expected that.

Thanks fellas. I don"t really have a good sample to compare the color against. All of my parts had been painted blue over the original red. With color fade over the years, how do you judge what is correct? You would need to have an original color chip that has been kept out of the light. I don"t think there is one. When matching colors for classic cars like on my 55 Chevy, if someone hasn"t already reformulated the color you have to use an original chip sheet to come as close as possible. You can come close enough that no one will would ever think it"s off unless you have two the same color side by side. Then the question is, who is closer and by what standard do you judge it by. It"s usually opinion which isn"t a true measure.
In any case the red looks great and I think it"s pretty darn close. Omni is sold by PPG and it"s cheaper than DCC. I"ve never used it. I started on DCC and I"ve always really like the performance of it. I think you get what you pay for in this case. The DCC will probably have better longevity for color holdout etc. Watch for new pics by Monday as the frame is back from the blaster and looks great. I will be prepping, priming and painting the main frame and a bunch of small parts that don"t need bodyworking this weekend. I still haven"t sent my hardware to the plater yet as I have a last batch of parts I need to go over in the bead blaster. It will take 3 to 4 weeks to turn those around unfortuneatly, but that will give me time to bodywork the sheetmetal and get it dead straight and fill any pits.

Sure Brad you say it is a "restoration" but I doubt that engine ever looked that good!

Nice job.

Enjoyed your pics. Engine looks great. Did you use the PPG DCC paint you spoke of in earlier posts? How do you like the match to original colors? I'm getting closer to painting mine and trying to decide what to use. A local paint store recommended Omni paint which is made by PPG. Do you know anything about it and would you recommend it? They say it is as good as the PPG, but not quite as expensive. Appreciate the input.

Your tractor is going to look great.

Glen
