I've got to replace the ring gear on my 800's flywheel. Is it as easy as it looks to split this tractor?(ha ha) Looks like I need to support the front half, chock the front pivot so it doesn't flop over, loosen some bolts, and pull the back half off (rolling it on either a floor jack or dolly) Is that about it?

Thanks Y'all. I didn't ask about putting it all back together! I guess as long as I don't turn the engine or trans it should slide right back together. Right?

Being that i cut my mechanical teeth on Ford- Ferguson tractors, in the late 40's to early 50's, here's some tips! First make triply sure you have the front section securely supported, the wheels blocked, etc. It will fall sideways if not secure! Then, yes, you have to roll the back half back, by supporting it on a good heavy duty floor jack! Not one of those tin ones from the el-cheapo parts store! A few friends to help will be of great help to you. And, you must have a smooth concrete floor! So, get help, be careful, block everything up, and tie the rest, and you'll probably be able to do it! Just remember--when the section starts slipping or rolling over, get out of the way! and, those old tractors just lay in wait for somebody to make a mistake, and then go and ruin their day-or weeks--or months! Well thats about it but its not all that easy either. My self I use a chain hoist and lift the engine out. I have found that putting them back togeather isn't all that easy because if lineing up the tranny shaft to the clutch and by hanging the engine things go back togeather easier. I also remove the front axle and hood when I do it.
