I just purchased a 64 for 5 hundred. It has a 4cyl diesel runs great but tranny didnt work. I pulled it apart and the input shaft is real bad but not stripped. It broke the center out of the clutch disc that drives this shaft. where can i purches parts for this ??? Any sites on the net? I also need a gasket seal kit for the sos.

I just finished repairing my input shaft and clutch hub on my 1966 4000. Read thru the archives. I gleaned alot of info from these fellows. I rolled the tractor up and removed the shaft vertically so as not to drop thrust washer inside. I was intriqued about the suggestion of Fords recommended quick fix, so that is the route I took. I welded up the spline area of the shaft and milled it to fit a 15/16" impact socket. I made a new hub for the clutch, bored it out to recieve socket and welded together. The Ford dealers I called had clutchs for $360.00 and input shafts for $1280.00. I will have about $50.00 invested in it. The tractor does not see hard use, so I think it might last for my lifetime. Anything can be repaired. Its handy if you have a friend with a machine shop. Hope this helps. If this is any consolation, I started this project in April and only now have parts ready to go back in. Good luck. John

Thanks for the in put guys. I've been talking to dealers and found that the parts are going to be spendy if available. I own a welding repair shop here and i've welded about anything under the sun, so I welded up the spline and was going to get it resplined but they wanted 700.00. I'm going to do what John did!!! I thought that was a excellent idea. Thanks again

hi Dale,
The torque limiting clutch disc is #E8NN7A539AA, only from New Holland--no aftermarket support for Select-O-Speeds. The quick fix is to weld the hub to the disc: Center the hub, level it across in the same plane, add reinforcing pieces or cut a complete ring to fill gaps as required (1/8" thick, 1/4", whatever). Just don't allow the reinforcement to intefere with the pressure plate or flywheel. To prevent too much disc warpage by the heat, stitch weld back and forth across the hub, like torqueing lugnuts. MIG is best. You're into the tractor righteous--I'd stick it back together and see what you've got. You've probably noticed minimal wear or the facings--the disc only slips to absorb shock. The splines will have to be dealt with sooner or later. The input shaft isn't available, so the standard fix is weld build-up and remachine. New hub splines would be immediately boogered up by the worn shaft splines--in my opinion, it's both or none. My guess is $400-$500 all told.

Common wear parts for the SOS are available: Soft parts--o-rings, gaskets, seals-- clutch discs, etc. Like the 5-speed and the rest of the tractor, lots of hard parts (gears and shafts) aren't available.

If you decide to pull the input shaft for repair, read the link discussion, paying speshul attention when Texadian tells about the thrust washer. The only advice I've got is to pop for a New Holland service manual. Dan Robertson has dealt with the TLC and may come along with some details.
