I also have a blue selector valve. Can I use one of the 3 plugs on the side for a Return. I would like to hook up a control valve say from a log splitter and have 2 way hydraulics. Could I make it work???

It appears not, based on Mr Jewell's excellent post of yesterday (Jun 2) to my second set of questions (see my original earlier post of somet days ago that you also evidently noticed).

If you scan the archives, I think you'll find specific answers re your question about a log splitter. As I remember it, the answers stated that the 2000-3000-4000 series hyd pumps simply don't have the volume to drive the big-bore cylinders used on log splitters...takes forever to cycle such a cylinder. I also seem to recall that the recommended route is to use a pto-driven pump (which is chained in place to keep the pump body from also rotating). You'd also need a large volume oil tank, connections, filters, etc. Try www.surpluscenter.com or www.northerntool.com. I also recall a post where a 7000's hyd pump was swapped onto a 2000/3000 but I think I remember that the three-point hitch cylinder wasn't designed for that kind of pump volume and the cylinder's operation became too fast and jerky.

Be sure to check my answers. As I wrote in my original post, I know very, very little about hyd systems and their pieces and parts.

Matt

Thank you for your reply. I do not want to use a log splitter, I was just going to buy the valve so I could use the tractor on 2 way cylinders. Sorry for the confusion there. I read your original post but didn't quite understand all the answers. With my Blue valve I can raise a 1 way now but I don't like the way it works. For a 2 way I know I need a return to the sump and there are 3 plugs on the side of my Blue valve. I guess I need the 4902 to make it work? Thanks again.

It does appear that you'd need a 4902 (Tisco might've renumbered it as a 5902?).

The Freeman loader we have has single-acting cylinders and, as I mentioned, I got tired of chaining down the 3-pt hitch to use the loader, then not being able to use the 3-pt for anything else, and so on. So, we bought a 4902 from a dealer going out of biz. But, I don't have the time right now to run lines to/from the loader, swap out cylinders, build brackets for control valves and so on.

I realized a selector valve, like the one you already have, would be a quick fix for a short term. Like you, I got to looking at those plugged-off ports, compared them to the 4902, and said "Hmmm, can I sell one of these?"

Before I put on the selector valve (today ?), maybe I'll try to trace the ports' paths and compare those to the paths for a 4902-standard top plate combination. I'm still curious about those plugged-off ports....

Matt, Thank you for the information . No, don't go to any more trouble. This is just a project I'm thinking about when I get some more spare time. I may never get it done anyway but I've thought about it. Again thanks for your trouble. B. Jones

Ok. Was glad to see your original post because I thought I was the only one who'd wondered about those plugged ports (or, at least the only one who'd asked). If/when you do chase that idea, I think you'll find the selector valve routing and ports easier to trace than those in the Tisco block.
