'64 4cyl 4000 Dipstick tube problem

Rebuilt the 172D, it's still on blocks sitting on shop floor. Looked down while getting ready to put fuel pump and filter and lines on and remembered the dip stick tube needed to go in. The long end 12" or so doesn't want to go down in the pan. It's hitting something on the way down, only goes about half way. What's the next step? The only thing I can think of is that it's hitting the counter balance spinner down there. I've twisted the tube all the different directions and rotated engine, thinking maybe a conn rod in the way and still won't go down.
The other little thing is the 4th stud back on the intake manifold I can't get any kind of wrench or socket on there. It's very close between the intake and exhaust manifold. Does that stud take somekind of special small hex nut? I don't remember anything special coming off that stud. bjr

Okay finally wound up pulling the oil pan back off to see what gives. The crankshaft balancer is right in the path of the dipstick tube. I had to put kind of a "S" shape in the tube to clear the rear edge of the balancer. Now the dipstick goes in kinda hard. I kept tweaking the tube slightly to make the dipstick slide in. My question is. Does anyone remember having to modify the dipstick tube curviture when using the service counterbalancer? It's just something I'd like to think I wasn't the only one to come across this issue. Now I'm stuck tryin' to find a 172D oil pan gasket locally. bjr

Mine did the same thing, but the tube has a bit of a banana bend to it and with rotation, cleared the obstacles.

I don't remember any issue with the manifolds.

Can you post a pic of the problem?
