My right brake pedal has a spring hooked to the bottom of the lift quadrant to raise it,the left has a spring tie wired back to a tab on the rear axle trumpet.I'm sure it didn't leave the factory with these.I have the I&T FO-20,which was no help, and today pulled the brake drums expecting to find broken springs, but didn't.What is supposed to pull the pedals up,and how do you fix it?Thank You

My 63 Ford 2000, 4 cyl gas, had similar problems. When I got the tractor it had no brakes on either wheel. I removed the drum and found the hook on one return spring broken, and a return spring on the lower shoe missing. I have bought new springs at the NH dealer. I am putting on new shoes also....My tractor has 4 springs on each brake assembly. Two on the front conecting each sh0e to a stationary peice. One long spring with two coils that connects the two shoes together. Then one spring at the adjustment screw in the rear. (Total of 4 springs). I suggest you contact a NH dealer he should have a list of these springs.

The springs on the brake shoes are enough to return the pedals if every thing is free and brakes are adjusted.
I had problems with my 861 on the bar that crosses under the tractor getting stuck. After I cleaned all the old dried grease off it and put new grease on it works fine.
