my neighbor was haybining today with his 4400 ford tractor with the Select-O-Speed transmission, and the way he described it was " all of a sudden it felt like he hit a brick wall."the tractor stopped all forward motion and the pto stopped turning. now no matter what he does with the select-o-speed the tractor wont move(runs fine)in any direction and the pto no longer turns..sounds to me like hes had a major failure of some kind.with the little bit of info i provided any thoughts as to where the problem might be? thanks, bill m.

Bill, soundguy is on the right track, I've just about forgotten everything I ever knew about the S.O.S. even though I have 3. There is a so called Torque Limiting Clutch disc mounted in the flywheel, with a bellville washer and splined hub. The bellville washer always seemed to apply enough pressure they never slipped but the splined hub would wear as well as the transmission input shaft splines. This can be checked by removing the trans top cover and checking the fluid flow at the valve body I think..... Kelly.

I'm not an SOS guy.. but there are a few here.. However.. thru osmosis.. I have picked up on a couple things. Seems there is a toruqe limiting device inline.. perhaps it is that? Seems plausable..

Sorry I can't help more... I'v simply had -0- experience with the SOS tranny...
