What do you guys think I should do buy a Ford 8000 or stick to the John Deere 4020 for a Gehl 1580 silage blower? The 4020 burns way too much fuel I think the Ford could do it in less fuel.It will be competing against a Ford Tw-15 which we use to unload wagons. Does the Ford 8000 come with a free spinning pto like the 4020 or should i stick to the 4020?

I've never heard tell of a Deere in that power class that wasn't fond of it's drink. From what I've been told, by a fairly reliable friend, is that the 8000 he had would burn less fuel than his 70 hp Deere doing the same jobs, and less than his 50 hp CaseIH when the 8000 was doing light work. You've already got a TW15, so I would think that to be about the benchmark for what the 8000 would burn on the blower, and also roughly how it would perform on the blower. If it couldn't keep up to the TW15, give the pump screw a 1/4 turn out, and she'll keep up.
I'm guessing you're only going to use the tractor on the blower, so you aren't too concerned about comfort. The 8000 isn't a tractor I'd want to spend a lot of time on. For what it's worth....

Sorry but,I should have said the 8000 factory horsepower was 105.The rating was raised to 100 when the 8600 replaced the 8000.

Ford 8000 is 110 factory horsepower. For its size it was also cheap on fuel.It had a hydraulic pressurized stop brake on its pto.Overall it was a decent tractor after Ford worked the bugs out after the first ones gave all the trouble. But after saying all that the 4020 Deere may have been the best tractor ever in 100 horsepower range.I'm a Ford believer but,I'd take a good 4020 over an 8000 any day.
