I have a 1964 4000 industrial 4 cyl. gas. When I bought it 4 years the hyd. for the 3 pt. worked, sort of. They were slow and only after the tractor warmed up, I had water in the oil that I changed. 2 years ago the clutch went out and had to park the tractor for awhile. Finally got it repaired and up and running, but the hyd. don't work. It has the piston pump. When I broke the tractor in half to replace the clutch the pump was removed. I replaced all the old fluids with 134. I loosened the hex head plug on top of the pump thinking it didn't have prime but oil started to come out. According to my manual this means I have prime but the pump is shot. Is this right or am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated.

Hmm.. I'm not sure why you prematurely conclude that since you have oil coming from the bleeder on the pump.. but no lift.. that the pump is shot. Since you have oil coming out.. that tells me that it is pumping.. While it is very possible that the pump is worn and bypasses.. I would still think it would lif tthe arms with no load on them. My guess is more towards the unloading and relif valves or an oring under the hyd cover. Looks like it's time for a repair manual, a pressure gauge, and some greasy hands.
