Thats how I did mine. Wasn't hard at all. This may qualify for one of those things that people who have never done it like to tell how hard it is. Kinda like putting new ledger plates on mower guards.

Wow that was a bit strong Mike, I appreciate how aggravating struggling with something you get to realise you should never have started can be.
I can assure you I have rekitted dozens of these pumps successfully and have actually made a sleeve and threaded rod tool for pulling the seats out rather than use a slide hammer, although I believe a slide hammer could work if used correctly.
I advise in this forum only on work I am familiar with and have undertaken regularly, I believe my advise is accurate and I try to make it clear but their are two variables I am not in control of:
1: The accurate discription of the symptoms
2: The level of skill and competancy of the person applying that advise to the job.
There are a couple of things you needed to work out for yourself, wether the hole needed to be opened up some more to be tapped, wether the tap was of sufficient quality to cut the steel and to recognise the difference between the valve seat and the parent housing.
Basically once advice is given you and only you must decide wether you are confident enough to undertake the work. You know you can take it down the road, pay a few extra bucks and get a guarantee. You decided to gamble and do it yourself.
Remember, advice here is free, maybe thats what it is worth to some.
Regards Dicko
