I have an 1958 861 with a hollow roller power steering pump that has been leaking quite a bit, so I finally bought all the gaskets and seals and started to do the rebuild.
Took the pump apart and nothing looked too bad except for the seals and gakets.
One other thing I noticed was that there is a "thrust washer" in the housing on the side of the shaft that does not get the pulley. It has been worn quite a bit and I could see bite metal on the edges. I thought I found the culprit that may be chewing that up.
It looked to me like the bushing that the shaft goes thru was not seated all the way down, so I lightly tapped it back down and continued with the rebuild.
To my surprise when I reassembled the pump I realized I screwed it up.
By tapping the bushing down further into the housing I now created end play in the shaft as there is a snap ring on the shaft that rests against the bushing . I thought no problem just get the bushing out and get a new one and put it in. Got the bushing out without too much trouble and then went to look at what part # the bushing is and saw the big * in the parts book that says the bushings are not sold seperately but you have to buy the half of the housing that has the bushing already installed.
YIKES what the hell have I done. Does anyone know where I ight be able to get a bushing for this pump or am I in for big bucks for the half of the pump housing???
Any help greatly appreciated....

Well, you should be able to match the part up. Have you taken it to a large autoparts store or a bearing / bushing house? We have a place in town that does bushings, bearings and electric motor rebuilding. Check the yellow pages, you may have one too! It may take some leg work, but I becha get one.
