OK, my dad's tractor has a loader bucket on it. The bucket mechanism is labeled "Superior Equipment Division" of Barrington, Illinois (With an italic 'S' logo with 'Superior' over the top of it) and the model is H-220 S. I don't know whether this is the one Ford put on it or whether it's aftermarket. The rear end is a grader of some sort, but there's nothing wrong with that.

"Superior" appears to be defunct, or maybe they got devoured by another company, or don't have a presense on the web anymore.

Anyway, the hydraulic cylinders that operate the bucket tilt leaked like a sieve, so my dad removed them to see why... and now we need a set of seals for the piston, scraper, etc. in order to reassemble the thing and (hopefully) get it working and leak-free again. A 'rebuild kit' of some sort with all the perishable items besides the ram and outer housing.

The rest of the tractor works, more or less. Just the bucket tilting rams are off.

So, my big question is, where can I find a seal kit that will simply and definitely fit and work the first try, in order to get that bucket articulated again? (It's just sort of chained up for now...)

Eventually, more of the flexible hoses would probably be in order, too. They're all degrading pretty badly.

The secondary question would be where to get the precise model/serial number off the tractor, and derive a manufacture date for it to order up parts and manual(s)? This thing has probably run hard since a few years before I was born, but it still runs. It would be nice to keep it running.

Dave,

www.hddistributors.com is the company you should see on line. They are out of Texas. The catalog is 9mb, but worth the download as it has pictures of all the parts. Just measure the thickness and diameters of the packings, seals and stuff and it will fit. Order all the o-rings and back up rings too! The big nut on the rod needs locktite blue 242 is what I use.

Dave,
First of all I would always mention whether you have a 3 or 4 cyl 4000.

The serial should be stamped on the flat spot on the tranny behind/above the starter.
As for your hyd. cylinders, I would look in to buying new ones at somewhere like TSC or Fleet-Farm the like. Most of these older loaders used pretty much off the shelf hydraulics and may still be available. When you compare having one rebuilt to buying new you're not a whole lot of $ ahead.
Good luck
Jerry

I take cylinders apart and take the related hard and soft parts to a hydraulic shop. They have sizing jigs and do the measuring, and the seals, o-rings, etc. are bought individually instead of as a kit. Check 'hydraulic' in the phone book.

It's unlikely that I could measure for mail order and get it right the first time. I never carry dirty parts to a store.
