I have a '64 4000 LCG w/172D engine and SOS transmission, and would like to know if they came with power steering oil cooling of somekind? Would a air style cooler, aftermarket kind, mounted in front of radiator be a good idea or is it necessary? This is the two cylinder steering system. bjr

BJ:

Your tractor was not designed with an oil cooler for the power steering system, and none is needed. That said, I do not suppose that adding an aftermarket oil cooler would hurt anything other than increasing the number of connections that might someday leak.

Now, an oil cooler for the S-O-S like that on the 65 and later models would be an improvement.

Not specifically your tractor.. but I do recall seeing some finned lines with a cooling block.. though don't know if this is oem or aftermarket.. etc.

Thats what our 6610 and 7610 have on the powersteering for cooling. It might fit on a 4000? Good luck!

That must be where I have seen them.. on some 6610 at the auction.. was only a couple loops and some fins... but guess it couldn't hurt.. as long as you could make it fit.. etc..
