On my 861 the gas shut-off on the bottom of the tank is dripping when turned on. Today it looks like it is dripping even when turned off. Is there and easy fix - like change o-ring; or do I need to buy a new shut-off.

Duck:

This depends upon which type of valve you have. If you have the screw-type valve you can modify it so that you can easily change the O-ring, as other posters have said. Many have had good luck doing this.

If, however, you have the lever-type valve the only option that I am aware of is to replace it with a new one. Replacement lever-type valves can be found online for less than $50.00 but will cost nearly $60.00 at CNH. Buy online as they are all made at the same place and are very poor quality.

As others have said, replace the O-ring as well (use a genuine CNH O-ring), and do not overtighten the bolts.

I have replaced the lever-type valve in my 860 six times in the last 11 or so years. Expect a year or two without leaks depending upon usage.

I had the same problem with my 881. Replacing just the O-ring fixed it. You could probably find a matching O-ring at a local hardware. Might first be worth checking that the screws mounting the valve to the tank didn"t vibrate loose...that could save you some time.

I will check the mounting screws. It appears to be leaking from the shutoff screw. Where is this o-ring? Do I have to take off the whole shutoff valve or just unscrew the shutoff screw? Finding an o-ring won't be a problem, so if it is that easy it would be great.

It is that easy,
You have to remove the shut-off valve from the tank,2 screws, disconnect the fuel line from the shut -off valve, there is 1 o-ring between the shut-off valve and the tank.
On the bottom of the shut-off valve , there is a small rivit ,preventing the screw from being screwed out all the way, drill that rivit out, now you can unscrew the shut-off screw, there is a o-ring on it, replace that o-ring, Tap the hole where the rivit was for a small screw, put the shut-off screw in the valve body, put in the small screw to prevent the shut-off screw from being screwed all the way out, put new o-ring between tank and shut-off valve, DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN, Hook up fuel line and you are done, Cost ? maybe $2.00

I have lost the shutoff screw out of my fuel valve. I am hoping to find one and thought maybe since you have had valve problems before you might have one or know where I can get one. Thanks for any help!

No I don't have any extra parts. When mine was leaking someone suggested removing the shutoff all together then use some fittings to attach the fuel line directly to the tank with a ball valve type shut off inline. I ended up drilling and taping rivet hole, and replacing the o-rings both on the screw and between valve and tank. Mine has not leaked a drop since. Was and cheap easy fix compared to the $30 plus for a new part.
