I mistakenly let my 641 run out of gas, now it is sputtering, misfiring and can't climb a mole hill in any gear. I have heard of if the tractor runs out of gas you need to bleed the line, can this be the case and if so how do you do it?

I had the same problem with my 641 after trailering it 230 miles.I must have stirred up 45 years of junk.Met a new friend(all of his tractors were orange).Under cover of darkness he took my red carb and cleaned it all out....left it in a bag at my motel room.I then replaced the fuel shutoff and screen which were leaking...no problems since.Dan Heglund

Thats only true if its a diesel and you said gas. You probably got some junk in the carb and its just not getting enough gas now to run well. I would try this maybe it will work maybe not. Pull the air intake tube off the carb. Start the tractor and then quickly put you hand over the carb and pull it off before it dies. That maybe enough to suck the junk out, you may have to do it a few times. If that doesn't work try pulling the main jet adjustment out and spraying carb cleaner in and also have the drain plug out when you do that. Doing that may flush out the junk. If that doesn't work you will probably have to rebuild the carb

That would be my guess. When you got to the bottom of the tank you sucked the crud that had been building up for 50 years. Check the strainer in the tank and blow all the carb jets out with a cleaner.
