AFTER RUNNING MY 841 POWERMASTER FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES OR SO, THE ENGINE BEGINS TO SURGE WHEN IT IS UNDER A LOAD, SUCH AS WHEN I"M PULLING A DISC OR A BUSHHOG. WHEN I CLUTCH IT, DECREASE ACCELERATION AND/OR TURN OFF THE PTO, THE ENGINE IDLES SMOOTHLY AGAIN. BUT UNLESS I LET IT SET FOR A WHILE, IT WILL BEGIN TO SURGE AGAIN WHEN UNDER A LOAD. MY GAS TANK CAP IS AN OLD ONE THAT DOES NOT FIT TIGHT. IT WILL LOOSEN EASILY DURING OPERATION AND ALLOW GAS TO SPLASH THE OUTSIDE OF THE TANK. I"VE BEEN TOLD MY PROBLEM COULD BE VAPOR LOCK, GAS BOILING, CARBUREATOR PROBLEMS AND GOVERNOR PROBLEMS. I"D LIKE TO HEAR FROM THE PROS????? ?

Caps lock off please as that is YELLING at people. Now what the problem is your running to lean or you have a bit of junk/rust in the carb clogging the main jet. I would bet if you open up your main jet a turn or so your problem will go away. If it doesn't pull the adjustment out and also the drain plug and spray some carb cleaner in to the main jet.

What is surging? Does the RPM go up and down rythmicaly, or does the engine break into a miss on one cylinder or randomly missfire, or does it bog when the govnor opens. I'd bet cracking open the main jet on the carb would make a differance, might let the old varnish pass thru and you will both feel better.
