Just purchased a Ford 231 Industrial and have several problem I am not famular with Ford. 1st the clutch is it a 2 stage clutch or is the pto live...works like the pto is independent but it grinds when engaging it ...could this be independent power with worn clutches or could the main drive clutch need adjusting if it is a 2 stage clutch. Left side brake needs adjusting .. How to do this ? am going to take some slack out of the brake rod maybe this will help .. Also what type of brakes are on this tractor ( yea I know I need a shop manuel ) Any help in the mean time will be greatly appricated. Also this tractor has low profile tires on it which make a sharp angel on the flail mower we are running behind it... is there a converter to raise the pto shaft hight up some ??

Taking that the industrial is like the other ford tractors of the 50-60s your brakes should be mechanical with a star wheel in the drum with a slot in the back to adjust the brakes. The pto will be live if you use the clutch to operate it with the first half of clutch travel operating the tractor. Independent would be totally seperate of the clutch, maybe operated with hydraulics. You need to get the manual and adjust the clutch by it maybe you wont have to replace the clutch, expensive. Maybe they used something on the LCG tractors to raise the pto, you might search the archives and ask somebody that owns one.
