I have a 1966 3000 tractor with a 158cid 3 cylinder gas engine the block is cracked and the cylinders need to be sleeved. The block casting number is c5ne-6015-(t or t1) the suffix is almost impossible to read. What other blocks can I use it appears that a 178cid diesel is the same block but has a longer stroke crank. Will the block from a 4000 series work? Thanks for any information you can send my way.

M.M.
You could... use any '65/ 3 cylinder block. All 65/ blocks have the same front and rear bolt patterns. It would be best to use a 4.2" bore block (2000 or 3000). Gas and diesel blocks are the same. The 4000, 4600, 4610 etc had a 4.4" bore block.
The block height is the same for all 3 cylinder engines: 12.36" from crank centerline to head gasket surface (very early 65 and 66 blocks were slightly shorter but the currently used thicker head gasket makes up for the difference. The connecting rod length is the same for all 3 cylinders, 7.5" center to center. The variables are the crank stroke and the piston height from the wristpin to the crown.

2000 blocks will have a letter B prefix on the engine serial number. Letter B followed by six numerals stamped into the extreme lower block skirt, right side, midway from front to back. 3000 blocks have the letter C engine serial number prefix. 4000's: letter D. The engine serial number has no connection to the tractor serial number.

It sounds like i can step up to the 201cid engine with just the block and crank to match if everything else bolts on. Thanks Mark
