I have an old 4500 with a 6spd. I have also seen them with the 8spds and I have an old brochure that shows a shuttelshift with a torque converter, I have never seen one in person. How many were made? Were they any good? Im considering buying another one for restoration and a little light work and the shuttle shift t/c trans sounds great.

Rory,
The shuttle shift for the 4500 was a powershift forward/reverse torque converter transmission in front of a four speed gearbox. The shuttle-shift 4500's were far more common than six and eight speeds. Your six by four is probably a lot more dependable than a thirty year old shuttle shift unless you find one that's been well maintained.. The shutttle shift tranmssions were very good; they had a systme to prevent shifting from forward to reverse or back unless the engine was idled down. I don't think there were any particular problems with the transmission except maybe a tendency to leak a little transmission oil at the bell housing.

Thanks, That is good to hear. I am kind of supprised that there are not more shuttle shift macines around. I thought maybe the reason I havent seen any was there might be a problem with them, like the selecto speeds. Now ive got to find one.
