Any tricks for taking the power steering pump off of my gas 4000. I have the Ford maintenance manual and I started the project once, but quickly learned that there are tight quarters within which to work around the pump. How many bolts actually mount the pump to the engine and where are they located. It looks like there are two bolts that are taken out from the back side of the pump. Thanks for any suggestions.

Larry, the pump is held on by two 3/8" bolts from the front through the timing cover into the pump. You will see the lugs on the front of the pump top and bottom which will indicate which they are. Also the other timing cover bolts are 5/16".
The pump should come off cleanly complete (pipes disconnected of course) but if you have trouble, because the oil pressure sender is rather close, then drain the reservior and remove it and the filter. As you remove the reservior watch for the filter spring which will drop.
Good luck Dicko

I took mine off recently but my whole tractor is apart. It was only held on by two bolts. The whole apparatus(pump, resevoir, lines and brackets) can come off as 1 piece.
