Ford 3600 Gas- Quit now won't start

I started my tractor today without a problem. I did notice a metallic grinding noise when I started, but it started fine and was running well. I had it idling to do something throttled all the way back and it quit. I started it right up again, it ran for about 10 seconds and quit. Did it again, ran for maybe 5 seconds and quit. Now it won't start at all. I noticed gas dripping from below the carburetor, so I thought it was flooded. I let it sit for an hour and it still won't start.

The metallic noise doesn't happen all the time when I try to start it, but sometimes when it feels like it is going to start and run.

I am at my wits end. If anyone can read this and offer any advice, I would sure appreciate it. I would think maybe my points had burn up if it had not started in the first place. Thanks.

Brian

I checked my oil level and it is above the full level on the dipstick. What does this indicate? Thanks.

As the other poster said.. check to see that you ahvn't 'made' any oil.

now.. check spark... pull a coil wire.. if no spark.. pul the cap.. see if te rotor is intact and has not rubbed on the cap contacts. Also.. verify that the rotor spins as you crank the engine over..

If that is all good and you have spark, check air flow ( pull hose to carb.. )

Past that.. I'd say fuel or timing..

Did you check your crankcase oil?Does it smell like gasoline? Is it still normal level? If your carburetor is flooding you can probably fix this by removing the carb drain plug. Then the floot valve will drop down & this will allow the fuel to wash out any sedement.I hope that grinding noise is not serious.Your descripion is scary!CENTAUR
