Sanity Check on My Gas 3600

I posted a message for some help on the board a week ago, and I hope somebody can give me a sanity check. My tractor stopped running and then would start and die, now it won"t start at all. I got no spark at the plug.

I did a tune up, plugs, condenser, distributor cap and points. Tried to start and it only backfires. I believe that it is a good sign because something is happening. I also believe it indicates I am 360 off in the timing. I want to double check:

1) 1st cylinder is at the front of the engine?

2) The 1 is where the spark plug wire from the 1st cylinder (front of engine) goes, then counter clockwise to two and then 3?

I"m sorry to ask something so basic, but I wanted to make sure I have the correct TDC. Again any other advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Brian

Firing order on a 3600 is 1-2-3. Front of engine is #1 cylinder. If you had the distributor out, you may be 180 degrees out of time. (360 is a full circle - back to where you started.) I don't know off hand which way your disrtibutor turns. Crank the engine a bit with the cap off to see, then arrange plugs wires accordingly.

this is basic pull front sparkplug (#1} chank engine till you get cmmpression bring timing marks up to center this is #1 fire point...is rotor pointing to #1 wire in cap? dose your rotor turn clockwise or counter clockwise? if rotor is pointing to another wire that is #1..if not pointing at any wire something has slid ...i think timing order is 1.3.4.2.but not shore my book is up state were i am working on a 4000
