Bluepower, most of the 000 ford had their carbs and manifolds replaced with the ones for the 01 series which are significantly larger. you will want to do this if it hasn't already been done. some guys will replace the balls in the governor with smaller ones so that the throttle will open sooner but I haven't seen the need for this. good luck

Bluepower, I have been pulling quite successfully for about five years with a '57 960. however I rarely pull in a 4500 class. I pull mainly 3500 and 4000. I have 15.5x38's on it and usually select 2nd for 3500 and 1st for 4000. This last season I rehabbed a 9000 and was quite successful in 9000, 9500, 10000, and 11500. If they have 3500 in your area you can be very competitive. good luck! and remember that world wide blue is the most popular pulling color.

Not enough cubes to be competitive in our neck of the woods.

Most of our classes start out at 4500 lbs. You then have to compete with stripped down Farmall M's, WD 45 Allis's, and A John Deeres, and six banger Olivers. There can be 30 tractors in a class too.

I tried pulling with a 40 HP farmall H with a farmall 350 engine. (about the same cubes) I ended up going back to my AC WC with D17 LP pistons and a WD45 crank. It looks like He## and pulls like He##.

I saw some PICs on this site of some powerful 5000 and 6000 fords pulling. You may want to get a hold of the guy that owns them.

Tractor pulling can be very addicting and very frustrating. many times you end up wrecking a good tractor by making it into a puller. If you win everyone complains that you are cheating. If you loose your not the winner. They change the rules a lot in our area which can change the balance of power and in the end costs more money.

My advise is find a light low value tractor that had a lot of cubes from the factory or a look a like bigger engine will fit in it. Examples: U moline to a M5 moline or AC WC to a 175 gas. Make sure it has a light front end too. Go to the national tractor pulling web sites and look at what types of tractors are winning. http://natpa.com

good luck
