I just got a Ford 4000 heavy duty industrial tractor. I was told it was a 1963. The SOS was taken out and a 5 speed put in. Does anyone know what size gas tank this would have? Also if you would only get one manual for this tractor which one would you recommend? Where would be a good place to get it? Thanks in advance!

Old is correct, the tank is 17 gallons.

I was going to put a 5 speed in my 4140 HD Industrial, but was told by a very trusted source that the 5 speed would not be able to take the punishment of loader work. Just as well, fixed the 4 speed with Sherman combo.

The Ford manual is good. BUT - read the parts on the steering for your tractor BEFORE you buy. Some sites sell the copy from 1958-59 and it DOES NOT contain the information on the 4040 and 4140 tractors. Only the 1841 series. Yeah, I got screwed.

I am told that the FNH dealers can get the manual, but this site has it too. I did not get my manual from them, but should have.

My manual doesn't list how many gals. for the gas tank but a fuel tank on an 801 is 17 gals. so your will be close to that.
