I went to NAPA to buy some front wheel seals for my Ford 555 tractor. After going though several books, the NAPA person was not able to find a cross reference part number because the front wheel seal is a Ford proprietary part number and is stamped E4NN-1190-AA.

Apparently, the aftermarket suppliers have not caught up with reproducing part numbers like these as they have the old Ford 9N, 2N, & 8N’s proprietary part numbers.

I’ve tried to buy as few parts from Ford-New Holland as I can avoid, because they are so expensive!

Does anyone have a good source for Ford 555 loader/backhoes? I hate paying 3 to 5 times what an equivalent generic part would cost at Ford-New Holland.

THANKS, EVERYONE - I GOT THEM AT BEARINGS STORE in reply to AmeriKen, 12-06-2006 12:15:27
Thanks, everyone, I went to Motion Industries in Dayton and got the seals and bearings. The bearings were Timken with the number stamped on it. The Ford proprietary seal was measured and a Chicago Rawhide seal cross-reference was made.

A small part for a Ford truck was 2.90 at the ford dealer. No thanks, got 2 in a bubble pack for 80 cents at an auto supply.Stopped at a body shop and got one free.Tried a small auto supply, got one for 20 cents. It pays to shop around.A starter brush rigging was 40.00 at one auto supply, got it for 16.50, 3.85 of that amount was for postage.

Try Bearings Incorporated. You may have to look up their address on Goggle.

Several months ago, I put a clutch in an 860.

I needed a couple of oil seals for the tranny input shaft/PTO input shaft.

I found the seals in a CR catalog, but wasn't ABSOLUTELY sure they were correct, so I ordered OEM seals though an FNH dealer.

The seals arrived in sealed CNH bags, with the Ford part numbers ON the bags.

Packed inside the bags were CR seals with CR part numbers on them, NOT the Ford part numbers.

The CR numbers on the FNH-supplied seals corresponded with the CR numbers I had found in my CR catalog.

So, I paid FNH prices for seals I could have got cheaper from my CR distributor.

Nowadays, the old, heavily-built seals used as OEM are often unavailable, and the seals you get are made of thin, wimpy metal, compared to the originals, and are often narrower. That was even the case with the seals I ordered from the FNH dealer. This is often true at the RED and GREEN tractor stores, too.

So, no problem in going to a local industrial bearings and seals store, and getting your seals through there.

I'd go to a bearing/industrial type supply place. They'll get the seals easy enough. Bearings are a little more tricky... I don't know about that model, but at times a bearing will be made for a manufacturer like Ford, and ONLY for Ford. Say Timken made the bearing. They supply that bearing only to Ford, and the number is a closed or proprietary number. Timken will not sell that bearing through their network. I've had it happen... Although, I'd suspect that those bearings would be easily available....
Beyond that, I think you're being hard on NH. What I have noticed on part pricing is that anything that is not readily available thorugh the aftermarket is expensive. They'll charge what the market will bear. However, anything that is easily available elsewhere will be no more money at NH, and at times a good deal less. I always price with NH first, and if it't outrageous, then I look around elsewhere if I have time. If not, then I just order it.... Believe me, it would surprise you at what Nh sells cheaper than a lot of aftermarket suppliers.

For seals, bearings, o rings etc I just go to our local industrial supply store. Nine times out of ten, they can match things up at a 1/3 the cost Dave
