When I start my ford 9n I always have to use the choke weather it is warm or not, once running for 2o minutes or so and I shut it down, It wont start untill I leave it sit for 10 minutes or so. Could this be in the carb? or in the timming? I do not have the best spark although it does not miss while running, This is a 6 volt system.

Terry

If all of the other post fail, check all the connectors on all the wires from the battery to the distributor. A bad connector can lower the voltage to the coil resulting in a weak spark. Connecting a jumper from the battery directly to the coil when starting the engine is a quick test for bad wiring.
Also, a weak condenser can do as you describe.

AC:

You need to address your ignition problem first. Like Traper said, 6V or not, your ignition system should produce a spark capable of arching nearly 1/2 inch. If it does not, it needs attention and will result in a hard starting condition.

Once the ignition problem is addressed and remedied, if the hard starting problem persists it is most likely due to low compression.

In this case, perform an open-throttle compression test and post pack.

That spark should jump 1/2 inch at coil wire and be blue even if it is 6 volt

Its a 9N so there is NO coil wire on it since it is a front mount distubutor. But he should get a brite blue spark from all the plug wires if held about 1/4-1/2 inch from the block

Could be a number of things, any thing from clogged filters to a clogged up carb. I would start by pulling the drian plug from the bottom of the carb and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas. If you have a good flow of gas I would try adjusting the mani jet just a little, turn it out a 1/2 turn at a time but don't go past maybe 1-2 turns out if that much. If you don't have a good flow back track from there to find where the clog is. Check the flow at the line where it hooks to the carb. If you have good flow there then check the filter that should be in the elbow in the carb.

It's in the fuel line somewhere, possible the sediment bowl needs to be cleaned out.
Maybe the gas isn't turned on all the way.
