I am thinking about buying another tractor.....and yes I am sure it will be another FORD ! I know the usual places to look: dealers, newspapers, trader magazines, websites and riding the roads. How much luck have any of you had with the websites? Some of the ones I've looked at before don't navigate real well. I am in West Central Alabama, near Tuscaloosa for those who may know the area.

Well, you can say what you want but I got a real good deal on a bridge in Brooklyn through EBAY. I haven't been there to pick it up yet but it looks great in the pictures. You just gotta learn to trust people.

tractor buying rule no 1; never ever buy any tractor that you cant see in person, touch feel and drive before any money changes hands, rule no 2, in all other cases see rule no 1, there are just too many scam artists out there trying to sell you something they dont even own, a few days ago ebay had the same red tractor for sale by 3 different people,in 3 different locations

First, let all of the tractor supply/parts houses know what you are looking for. These folks stay in one place ALL day and people WITH tractors cycle thru. They know who has what and who'll consider selling. Craig'slist is a good source of leads but, like anywhere else, DON'T buy without a hands on inspection by YOU. Don't get in a hurry to buy the first one that comes along. I'm always looking but usually only buy one that has some compelling feature or is a bargain too good to pass up. Good luck!!

i have 13 tractors currently.. near san antonio.. whatca looking for??

1. dont buy a tractor for more than you can turn around and sell if for next week...

2. make sure to start it cold if its a diesel... put your hand on the engine before to see if its been started before you got there...

3. drive it through every gear and operate all the controls... if possible put it under plow or shredder...

dont worry about bad tires or bad paint or dents..

however if the tractor was totally beat to a pulp... pass it up... if it was used in a material yard or grass farm,, pass it up... these tractors have EVERYTHING worn out and will cost you about 3000 in repairs... the steering, the trans, the engine, the rear end, the hydraulics are all bad...

bad paint is preferred because they cant hide much... fresh paint can hide a lot so look it over even more carefully...

remember that hour meters usually quit,, and can be replaced so they dont mean as much as the condition of the tractor..

fords have the most availibilty of aftermarket parts.. so you can do a lot for less... but dont worry about looks vrs condition...i ahave bought many butt-ugly tractors that were in near perfect mechanical condition... and a "spray-can" (DUPONT)overhaul is cheap if everthing else is good.

remember the paint and decals are easyt to fake

I currently have a 1957 Ford 660, but without a loader. My first thoughts are a diesel in the 30 HP range. I might be interested in your 640..... the first consideration would be distance to you. I am in West Central Alabama. What's the price and condition of your 640?

I have heard this morning about a lot
of scams being run on Craigs list.
They are selling some womans appartment
with outside pictures. Send a deposit
and they will send the keys to get inside.

I guess tractors and equipment can be
easilly scammed.
