8 horse power don't sound like much does it? How about 27% more power and torque? Now that's more impressive. You do the math. Per centage wise more 3000's were sold with power steering, 8 speed trannys, live PTO, and locking rear differential than 2000's were.
Greetings from Lanett, Alabama.

Don't know of one right now, but I'll keep an out for ya. A decent 3000 diesel can be found for around $3K. Expect to pay about $500 more if it has power steering or sits on a dealer's lot. Where are you in Al? I'm about 20 miles north of Auburn near the Ga line an right off I-85.
I've bought an sold about 125 Ford tractors over the last 20 years, and I've found the best deals in late Jan-early Feb. "Tractor dealing" is getting tougher ever year though.

Regardless of whether they have 8 speeds, or more hp, the most controlling difference in my opinion is the issue of live PTO. Most of the 2000's did not have that option, even in the 8 speed diesels. Live PTO is what you want if you can get it. Note: I have a '74 2000 diesel and it has plenty of grunt for that class of tractor.

Bama,

If prices/conditions are similar I would go for the 8 extra HP. You might need it someday. If you don't, at least you won't work the 3000 as hard.

Coming from a guy that has a 231(2600) wishing I had just a little more HP (3600).

About 8 HP, and not much more. The 2000 has a smaller displacement engine, and tended to be more basic with mostly 4 and 6 speed transmissions, and sometimes non-live PTO.... but basically, both could be equipped exactly the same save 8 hp. About 30 HP on the 2000, and 38 HP on the 3000 (PTO figures).

We had a 2000 3cyl gas with ps,live pto and the 4
by 2 tranny. We also had a Ford 850,4cyl gas and 5 spd.tranny. No ps or live pto on this one. About 8-9hp difference. Both good tractors. In heavy bush hogging you couldtell the difference in hp. Otherwise they worked about the same.
