I have used phosphoric acid to clean steel and cast iron parts it does a good job. What I do to neutralize it is to spray some cheap walmart brand yellow can easy off on it after the acid clean and give it a good flush with water. THe rust isn't a big of a factor after that.

To prevent rust and keeping it looking like new,mix used motor oil and cleaning solvent and dip the casting into it and the result will look like a new casting for a long time as the cast iron is porous.CENTAUR
