I have a Ford 2000 1968 model,3 cyl gas burner. The gas and diesel engine blocks look identical.Would it be possible to put diesel pistons and cyl head on the gas block?Of course I'll need an injector pump, lines, filters, ect.

Yes, it could be done. I'd suggest that you go to NH's website and go through the parts catologue and ID the differing parts between gas and diesel. I think the cranks and cam are actually the same. You'd need piston sets, head, manifolds and fuel system. That engine was actually designed as a diesel, and converted to gasoline. Again, check the online parts catologue. On the downside, it would cost you more than your trouble, and you'd have to find used head and such as the heads are NLA if I'm recalling correctly.... Finding an engine might be easier. Good luck.

Comparison shopping might prove me wrong, but I spect it'd be cheaper to trade tractors. Another option might be a 2000, 3000, 3600, etc. with a diesel engine an a bad tranny(SOS?). Make yourself a Hy-Bred. If i ain't mistaken though the diesels had a crank and rods of the same dimensions as the gasser but were made of forged steel instead of cast iron. You'll need a stouter starter too. And about $400.00 worth of stuff that neither one of us can think of right now.
It's your money though.

With only 2 things you can do that.

Time and money.

Lots of each.

I think there are internal components that are different too. Much easier and cheaper to just buy a diesel tractor and sell the gas one. If it has a bad engine, you can probably part it out and get the most money for it.
