My 841 hydraulics will not lift every time you pull the handle up it also takes several second before it thinks about moving. sometimes when you pull it up it goes straight up and stays up, but most of the time with the motor running it slowly falls down. there is also a whining sound from under the set with handle in up position, but the pump is not leaking. does the pump need rebuilding or something in the valve? easy fix or not?

Sounds to me like you have a hydraulic leak inside the lift. First thing you should do is to take the filler plug out of the top of the lift housing and with an implement on the three point hitch try raising the lift while looking into the fill hole at the open end of the ram cylinder. If there is a stream of oil coming out the cylinder it needs to have the O ring replaced.

If there is no leak there then you may need to replace the pressure relief valve which can be accessed by removing the small square plate on top of the lift housing. The relief valve is under this plate and can be removed and replaced with a thin walled socket.

820 Hydraulics in reply to ZANE, 02-11-2007 18:14:23
Saw your postings on other hydraulic questions. Please provide any advice on my situation. Ford 820, rebuilt motor, runs fine. Rebuilt hydraulics, ran fine. Both done by separate shops since I don"t have the tools nor time myself. Recently the hydraulics started lifting only partially. If I move the draft lever up and hold it, the lift moves to full extension. The last time I used the tractor a couple of weeks ago it started making a noise lifting and lowering. It sounds to me like hydraulic fluid bypassing a small orifice. I suspect a leaking or broken seal or o ring. The hydraulic rebuild is less than a year old. Is this common or should I seek repair from the original shop? I have no idea how long such repairs and restorations should last. I would think longer than 30 hours run time.

Thanks for any and all input. I will be returning home Thursday and can work on it Friday. B. B. Stanfield III, KC5PIY
