Does anyone have experience using dual rear wheels on a 900? My idea is to try to find some 28' band duals, and use my 900 to drill wheat this spring, in an effort to keep soil compaction at a minimum. Also, what are the average price ranges for a set of duals/tires of this size?

Blue:

I grew up on a 1959 Ford 981 SOS bought new by my uncle in central Iowa. Though he had bigger (JD) tractors for his heavy tillage work he used the Ford for light tillage and other work.

He had a set of clamp-on duals for the Ford, and I spent many hours discing his very good central Iowa ground with this set-up.

Though you could spend more time and money locating and buying the Ford dual wheel spacers or adapters, his clamp-on duals worked fine and cost much less.

I saw a set of the special mounting bolts on Ebay recently.

You WILL need the spacer plates and 'male/female' nuts. Handling 2 rims and centers at the same time isn't practical OR safe.
I tried the longer stud method and it was quite a chore to finally get it set up and you are pretty much stuck with whatever spacing you first pick because you WON'T want to change it.

I've done a LOT of searching out the resources/info on this. The special purpose nuts and plates aren't available new any more. Contact me if you want to go forward.

Hey yall , My redneck intuition says:
If a person had 2 full sets of wheels and centers.Couldnt he drive the lug studs out and put longer ones in the hub, then turn the inside center dish all the way in and nut it to the hub, take your outside wheel and turn it all the way out, slide it on the remaining lug studs and nut it down??

Or would that be too much stress on the hub/ studs?

Had a set of duals on a 851 I had for a while. These mounted on a special lug nut, (female on one side male stud on the other then a regular lug nut). If a feller had two Fords he could obtain the lugs, borrow the wheels off the second tractor, and see if they worked for him. I believe these same lugs are also used to mount rear wheel weights.

That was exactly what I was going to do when I had my 971. Found a set of 13.6x28 duals, but the (Deere) dealer wanted something like $350 for the set, with some hardware missing and a real bad split in one sidewall. Passed on them, sold the 971 a year later anyway, and put a set of 16.9x30 duals on my 4600 for pulling the drill. Worst thing about 28" duals is FINDING them.
