I need to confirm the rotation of a NAA distributor is CW. (NO, it's NOT in the I&T Manual, and I have just the distributor, NO engine.)

Bob,
I forgot to tell you to look at the arrows on the cam. CW. Click the pic to enlarge.

THANKS for taking the time to post that scan.

This turned out to be a REAL interesting deal... a CCW late 8N advance swapped into a CW NAA distributor.

It didn't work out very well!

The distributor rotates the same way that the advance mechanism advances when you grab the rotor and or the cam and see which way it goes.CENTAUR

Centaur,

Your CORRECT. Problem is, I'm dealing with a malfunctioning distributor.

I am checking out an NAA distributor for another poster, and it APPEARS the cam/advance mechanism has been swapped out for another, from a side-mount 8N.

I'm 99% certain I have figured out the problem... NAA distributor (which I'm almost certain turns CW) has advance mechanism from 8N (which DOES turn CCW) installed, causing coil to "fire" when rotor and high-tension terminals are NOT lined up. Not to mention RETARDING spark timing as speed increases, instead of ADVANCING it!

I thought confirming rotation would be a simple matter of opening the I&T manual for the NAA, but they thoughtfully omitted that simple, basic information.
