I am looking for fenders for my 5000. It has the clam type on it now. I would consider the flat top style. Has anyone had any experience/success in matching fenders from different models? I have talked to a guy that has a pair off of a 3930. I'm not sure how much modifying they would need. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I've used a pair of 5000 flattop fenders in converting a cabbed 8600 to open platform. I had to add about 5 inches of steel at the foot of the fenders to give a good clearance over the wheels but they fit fine alongside the fuel tank. The proper clamshell fenders are just about impossible to find here in the U K.

I went the other way, my 3930 has a set of flattops off a 5000. They cured my headlight mounting problems when I put the loader on it.
I plan to hang on to my clamshells though.
It was a straight forward bolt up deal.

Yes, I would think that the later fenders would fit the 5000. You would likely need to take the brackets right off the axle, but I'd think they will fit fine. Ford did standardize just about everything they could. In these parts it was uncommon for a 3930 to have the flat top/arch fenders like that. Every one I've seen, mine included, has the little clamshell/crown fenders which actually hold up fairly well over the long haul. I think those big flat tops were introduced on the 600 series in 1976, but they should fit fine. I always liked that fender for mowing. It gave some protection from projectiles.... They do tend to block your view to the sides somewhat though, and the fender itself was bad for collecting dirt up inside the structure and then rotting to pieces. They'd need regular cleaning to preserve them..... HTH.

I have fenders from an IH 806 on mine and I've seen fenders from a Deere used on a Ford 5000 also. You have lots of choices, may need different U bolts thats all. (the 806 used an odd shaped U bolt)

Are your clamsheel fenders rusted out.. or do you not like that style?

( I'd guess the square fenders from a later x6x0 will fit.. like a 7600.. etc.. someone else like RODIN can probably verify or deny that..)

One is rusted out..... and the other is getting there. I think either style would look/work fine. I do like having the grab handle, like most flat tops have.

One of the nice thing about Fords - parts commonality. Most fenders can be swapped, just check the mounting bolt holes. I'm not familiar with the 3930, but I know I could swap the fenders between my 4600(flat top) and 7000 (clam)if I felt like it, or between the Jubilee, 850, and 3000. I THINK they'd all swap, so find a style you like, and double check the mounting holes.
